Kalalaya Bharata Natyam School aims at training students in the art of Bharata Natyam which is a classical dance form originating from Tamil Nadu, India. The expressions, vibrant colours, beautiful costumes and the rhythmic patterns add a new dimension to this divine art form. Today this art form is a popular and widely practiced dance style not only in India but all over the world.
Bharata Natyam previously known as Sadhir was widely performed in temples up until early 1900s. In 1936, Smt Rukmini Devi Arundale developed a new style of Bharata Natyam by eliminating some of the "objectionable elements", with an objective to take this art form to the masses. This style is called Kalakshetra Style and at Kalalaya Bharata Natyam school, we will be imparting this style of dance to the students.
